Check this site out, they have tons of info for the 1st gen crx. The Si would be a good platform to start out with, since it is fuel injected and not carbeurated like the hf and dx models. This will make it a lot easier if you decided to swap the engine later. You can swap pretty much all of the d series relatively simply, the most popular one being the japanese zc engine. One of the main reasons being that some of the Japanese crxs came with the zcs. (I think.) Anyways this is a dohc non vtec engine with 130 hp, so it might not be a bad choice. Hasport also makes mount kits for the 1st gen. Crx to swap in all b series motors. This is a much more expensive route, mainly because of the price of the engines, the mount kits, and all of the other miscellaneous stuff that you dont need. Hopefully the site above should get you started and let you know some of the more technical questions that I can not.

I have an 86 Civic Si, and I love it. Lightweight and fun to drive. It's also a popular race car too, if you want to get into autocross or road racing. I autocross mine and do pretty well, despite having worn out shocks.

Go for it, they're a lot of fun. And easy to work on! Just think of it as a 4 seat CRX.

You could put a zc. Well you can also put a b16 in it believe it or not! www.hasport.com makes kits for them! A local shop (garage kwai) can swap it for 3300! I would love to have the first gen rex cause its way lighter than my 90 si (2176)!

Put an H22 in it, takes alot of modification, but you won't regret it when you feel the power.

Well no shit hehe. Man from what i've been told that putting a b16 in that year of crx is like putting an h22 in it already. So just imagine putting an h22!

would an h22 even fit? the engine bay looks pretty cramped even with the 12 valve engine in there. i am thinking about buying one that smokes really bad for real cheap from a friend. and thinking about swapping in an engine later.

No its not gonna fit man. Unless you wanna cut and weld? Just go with a b-series motor ...
