Internal to external wategate?

I got a KKK k24 turbo and its internally wategated... This will be my first turbo setup and i want t do it right and learn from other people's msitake and not my own. Anyways the tubo is internally Wastegated (my friend says that anyone saying that term is a moron cuz its internally bypassed) and I know I can make it external. I am buying a manifold with a wastegate flange on it but what about the old one? Do I just take it off and seal the hole or something? Also I am wondering how an external wastgate works its been confusing me? how can an external wastegate with no flap or anything restrict the amount of exhaust going tio the turbo especially where they are mounted to 1 runnner off the turbo manifold? Thanks for any input guys!

you would have to change the downpipe flange on the turbo, since the flap is connected to the flange area. just take it off and seal the hole, thats it, as for info on the external wastegate, once it sees the amount of boost its set at, it just releases the exhaust into the downpipe, so that it doesn't go through the turbo, this way, the turbo doesn't spool any faster. why are you gonna do external wastegate anyway, unless you are running a high boost setting. internal works very well, but it serves as a restriction in the exhaust, but external shows its benefits only when there is higher boost levels.

The reason I'm going to be going LS/Vtec with a fully built bottom end with lower compression pistons, do the turbo setup and i'm goin to be pushing it to the sky!
