2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w/ factory security system problem
Hi everyone, first time post...
My car starts and runs for about 3 seconds, and then shuts off. The 'security' light blinks as well. I have a pass-key III system. I tried both keys I have and both have same result. I have tried to relearn keys by turning each key to 'on' position for 10 min until light goes away, and then turning off and turning car back on, still nothing. mechanic told me car security system needed to be reset, but did not give me a code for issue, not sure he could fully diagnose the problem. I've read a lot of different variations of this issue, but none seem to be exactly like this...any ideas? |

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w/ factory security system problem
Welcome to AF and the Grand Prix forum.
You may have to take it to a GM dealer to see if any chassis/security system DTCs are stored causing the issue. A GM Tech 2 scan tool may be needed to properly diagnose. Other than the PK3 keys with the transponder it could be the ignition switch cylinder, wiring or the body control module (BCM) or even a PCM module.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w/ factory security system problem
Thanks...those are the few things I had narrowed it down to as well with what I have been reading. My car just got to the dealer today, so I will be waiting to hear from them on what it could be. I will post whatever info I get. Meanwhile, any ideas on costs for parts? I will be researching that as well. Thanks again.

I also asked about getting a used one from another prix and it seems it would work. There would be some relearning and set up but thats a small price to pay when considering the cost of a new one Here is the link to that thread... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=938363 Hope it helps |

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w/ factory security system problem
I feel your pain. My 2002 Grand Prix GTP was just at dealership this A.M. Started but shut off after 3-4 sec. Dealer states Theft deterrent module is the culprit based on trouble code. I am NOT getting any "security" light indicator on dash. After I wait a couple hours, car starts up and runs fine. Dealer states part is on National backorder (part #10335045) until June. It's now April!! I've been running errands in car all today with fingers crossed hoping it doesn't act up. I read somewhere online that if it dies act up, to disconnect neg battery cable for 10 min. and then reconnect and it should reset itself. Anyone ever try that? I also thought it could be the fuel pump resistor, but the GM fuel pump resistor relocator kit doesn't apply to 2002 Gran Prixs Due to the fact that this part is on backorder, it tells me that we are not alone in regards to this problem. GM needs to do something. I know it's probably low on their priority list cuz they're just trying to stay alive.
