Re: 2006 escape worth

Welcome 316,

You say that you are getting this 3-year old car with low miles for $1,500 and want to know if it's a good deal? What does it take to convince you of something so obvious?

To get a good estimate of how much you are saving, go to www.kbb.com and look up the private party value. You are getting the deal of a lifetime.
Are you sure you don't mean $15,000 ???

Re: 2006 escape worth

Yep, they are good cars. Make sure you change the oil and all fluids on schedule.
Keep an eye on maintenance, fix things before they become larger problems and this car will last you a long time.

Does your friend have any more stuff to sell? I like his pricing approach!

Re: 2006 escape worth

to tell you the truth its my mom... so thats why its the best price on the planet... thanks for the input by the way, unfortunately she has completely forgotten about the scedule and has never changed the filter(any) but other than that it runs fine but i was also wondering about the possibility of converting to e85 any info on that? oh yea the proper value is about 10000 dollars for fair and 11000 for good

Re: 2006 escape worth

To start with you had better get the oil changed as soon as possible.
You are probably overdue for an air filter and cabin filter too. Might as well get new wiper blades too for safety and clear driving during rainstorms. At 15,000 miles it's time.

I don't know much about E85 but if there is no good reason to convert don't do it. Your mileage will probably drop and these Mazda built engines run perfectly fine on regular gas.

Your Mom must be an awesome lady to arrange this deal for you. Don't forget about that next month. (Mother's Day)

Re: 2006 escape worth

If I were you I would focus 100% on taking care of the Escape through regular and preventive maintenance and forget about performance modifications. This simply isn't the type of vehicle to get any true increase of HP or handling.
For good performance without going nuts, stick to keeping the tires properly inflated for good steering & mileage, replace them when the tread is less than half worn to get good traction, and pour a bottle of Chevron Techron into the gas tank twice a year. That will help keep the fuel desposits from affecting the mileage.

Good luck, you are getting a decent first car - much better than most people end up with.

Well, if I were you I'd stick with the Escape until one of two things happens.

1) You can afford the insurance of being a new driver with a 2-door sports car.
2) You can finish your education specializing in Math (and spelling). I say this half jokingly, but half seriously too. Your first post and question had a lot to do with math, and now this question does too. And we can hardly understand what you are writing.
If you do a tiny bit of research, you will quickly realize that a 2006 Escape is worth considerably more than a 2005 Mustang. All things being equal of course based on the info you provided.

I like the new style Mustangs and would trade an Escape for a nice one if the opportunity comes up. But it would have to be a very nice condition GT with a V8 5-speed in order for it to make sense to trade for an older car with more mileage.

From the sounds of it, you are eager to take the gift your mother is offering and spend the cash it's worth as quickly as possible. Not a wise move for many reasons that you might not be able able to understand today. Perhaps other members here can share their thoughts on this too.
I'm not trying to bust your stones......but you are asking for advice and I'm happy to give it. You are facing a long road ahead of you if this is an example of your decision making.
Keep the Escape. But don't drive it like you stole it - because at $1,500 -you did.
Respectfully,
Tom
