1989 Rear Main Seal

Has anyone replaced the rear main seal on a 98 of the same era (1989)? I'm going to have the trans out soon, i'm replacing it with another. Is this a seal that is replaced from the outside? I was looking on Autozone's website, and they had some steps where it looked like it had to be replaced from the inside. Just looking for some tips.

Pan comes down and the rest is just like they expalin on AZ.

I have a haynes manual on the car as well, it mentions that the Crank needs to be pulled from the engine, but AZ does not. Can it be replaced with the crank still in place?

It must be loosened at the main caps and dropped down slightly to get the upper half of the seal out.
