'93 - Power Cuts Out While Driving 10-20 Minutes

I have 1993 Taurus Wagon, 53,000 miles. Engine just cuts out after about 10-20 minutes of driving, then restarts after about 20-30 minutes. Replaced fuel pump & Ignition Control Module. Problem still exists. Do not know what to replace next. Help! Thanks, Tim.

Re: '93 - Power Cuts Out While Driving 10-20 Minutes

Welcome to the forum!

Which engine does your Taurus have (3.0L 12V Vulcan, 3.0L 24V Duratech, 3.0L 24V SHO, 3.2L 24V SHO, or 3.8L)? Are there any consistencies in the way it dies, such as only when coming to a stop, only when cruising at speeds above X mph, only when it's raining, etc.?

My first guess would have been fuel pump, did you replace the pump with a new one or a used one? Did you replace the fuel filter at the same time?

You're probably going to need to determine what you don't have when trying to restart but before the 20-30 wait. Do you have fuel but no spark, or no spark but fuel, or neither fuel nor spark? What is the battery voltage?

Given that you've replaced the fuel pump and ignition module, my next suspect (since you seem to want to shotgun rather than troubleshoot) would probably be the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM) or wiring to/from it.
