Replace timing belt multiple times?

anyone know if I am supposed to replace my timing belt again and again after I do it the first time? My car is a Honda Accord 2000 and I changed the timing belt at 7 years (90k miles) already. The manual says every 105 miles or 7 years which ever comes first. Do I need to change it again after 7 years or 105 miles has passed? I am at 160k miles now, so that would mean i should change it at 90k+105k=195k miles or 14 years which ever comes first right?

Re: Replace timing belt multiple times?

That is what Honda recommeds. I think mileage is a more important indicator then aqe unless you are living in an area with extremes in temperatures, then age can also become a factor. The big problem is you can not inspect the conditon of the belt unless you tear apart the front part of the engine. You can stretch the numbers a bit but failure to change the belts can be very expensive if it breaks .(A broken belt bends valves and requires a valve job to fix.)

Re: Replace timing belt multiple times?

Thank You! I live in Los Angeles and it can get pretty hot around here in the summer. People told me that that qualifies as extreme temperatures. I have thus changed the oil every 3k miles instead of the 7k the manual says. and changed the timing belt after 7 years just to be safe. I want this car to last forever! so far so good...
