Sticky Gas Pedal

First off thanks to all that helped with my last driveability situation. After changing the plugs and wires - the car started running bad again and I changed the coil pack and that solved the issue. NEW issue - The car has a sticky gas pedal. It take a fair amount of PSI to break it free and then its fine. I had this issue a long time back and I brought it to the dealer and they did something though i can't rememer what. Anything I can do on my own, Anyone else have this issue ?

I had a very similar issue on a previous '98 Taurus SHO. I'm embarassed to say that enough carbon had formed on the back side of the throttle plate and inside the throttle body that when the throttle plate would close, the plate would wedge into the softer carbon and require a bit too much force to open the throttle. That made it very difficult to accelerate slowly from a stop, especially in the snow.

Any chance your previous work created the new problem? Changing plugs and wires on the back side could easily and conceivably involved bumping something, misaligning something, you removed and replaced something but is now interfering with the throttle cable. See if anything looks to be out of place, etc. Did you remove either or both the throttle and cruise control cables and not return them correctly? Maybe one of the cables is misrouted or hung up on something? Is the throttle arm to the pintle and plate binding?

I should have mentioned that I cleaned the carbon in my SHO with STP Throttle Body Cleaner spray and the sticky throttle went away. The only disassembly involved was releasing the intake air tubing from the throttle body. If you don't find a misrouted our binding cable during your inspection, you might proceed to remove the intake air tubing to check the back side of the throttle plate for carbon.

Update - Thanks to all ! I finally got around to cleaning the throttle body and that took care of the problem. No more sticky gas pedal - The throttle plate had tons of black gunk that took a while to get rid of. Thanks Again....
