1999 montana inner cv joint?

Okay here goes I have a 1999 Montana with 100,000 miles. It has a clunking noise in front end. Seems to only appear when motor is torqued on i.e when first starting to move and also on braking and acceleration. Does not do it all the time just on occassion. Also I jacked up front end and drivers side spins free in neutral passenger side does not. Passenger side seems to catch and move transmission and motor. I replaced halfshaft with new GSP from Advance Auto. I almost suspect new axle if not it must be internal transmission problem. i have relaced the following struts and mounts, control arm bushings and wheel bearing. Inspected ball joint and tie rod ends and all look good. Any ideas if there is an easy way to confirm whether it is Axle or tranny. I think I am going to pull the axle out this weekend if I get a chance.

Thanks

With the van in park, one wheel spinning should spin the other wheel backwards. Does it do that?
