Just curious how many people here like to watch/participate in Mixed Martial Arts.

Re: Who likes UFC/MMA?

I've been following "underground" fighting since my dad started me with karate lessons in 1970. Back then all of the underground fights were held in some secret dojo in Japan and they were against the law. I never went to Japan but I remember seeing a lot of old black-and-white movies of these guys kicking each others asses. Most of the fighters (maybe all?) were Kyokushin karate-do. No gloves, no rules, broken bones were a regular occurance and people even died. Eventually it evolved into K-1, which inspired the evolution of "UFC" and mixed martial arts.

I can't say I participate at a professional level but I have many decades of karate, judo and jiu-jitsu training and most of the guys at my karate dojo cross-train - I'll leave the cage matches to the young guys.

Nothing like watching people beat the shit out of each other....

My niece's boyfriend competes. Doesn't seem worth it to me. I like having normal looking ears.

Re: Who likes UFC/MMA?

lol yeah to most people it does look like two guys simply beating the shit out of each other or two sweaty guys rolling around on the ground, but fans of the sport appreciate the tactics and techniques employed by good fighters.

Re: Who likes UFC/MMA?

I should watch it more than I do, but i actually learn it. My good friend is a beast of a human, a weapon. He has been teaching me how to spar since last year. I've been out 6 months actually because of a major surgery, but i plan on continuing next month.
I am particularly impressed with Capoera and Gray's school of Jujitsu.
