Re: Time to change the Oil

Engine 15-50 Elf Race Semi Synthetic (5.0 engine)

Engine Filter - K & N high pressure

Trans MT90 Red Line full Synthetic

Diff Redline Heavy Weight Shockproof full Synthetic

I have absolutely torture tested Redline in gearboxes and Diffs over the years and swear by it. I have had an input shaft bearing split radially during a meeting (in a 530hp car fitted withn a close ratio Muncie) and was able to complete the meeting without having gear selection or trans overheating issues due to the ability of this oil to reduce friction. I had had this same failure happen previously when using another brand of semi synthetic trans fluid and my race was over within 2 laps due to heat build up melting the bearing outer race.

You can run Red Line Lightweight Shockproof in the trans but I now use MT90 as it is designed to run in synchro box applications.

Re: Time to change the Oil

Since the Oil companys have all changed the formula in there oils to go green and they have lowered the zink and phos. content to limits not condusive to race engines. My suggestion is to look at Brad Penn oils. I have lost two engines with other oils in the last year and this oil has been recomended buy a number of engine builders, this is what I am using in both race engines with great results. The oil companys have not told anyone about the changes but look at the reduced times difference between oil changes on the new cars. As a side note Delvac and Rotela have also been reduced.
Sorry for the can of worms.

Re: Time to change the Oil

Have fun at the Mitty and take alot of photos. Turn 10a and 10b are great place to watch. You will see a lot of late braking passes there.
