my 1990 bonneville keeps idling and shuting off AND KEEPS DOING IT
i just replaced the distribution cap new spark plugs and wires and a new air filter i still the same thing keeps happen
please help this is my first car

Did your mechanic charge you for this cap?
Your car does not have a distributor cap. It uses a magnetic trigger system, with no cap. Obviously, you should not have to pay for something that cannot be done.

I suspect it's a dirty or malfunctioning Idle Air Control (IAC) motor.
This device is on the intake manifold, beside the throttle blade. It allows a measured amount of air into the engine during idle. It's fairly common for it to get dirty and malfunction.
It can be removed and cleaned-out with some spray-can carb cleaner and a toothbrush.
