94 bird lx 3.8 starting probs

Car starts fine when cold. put in a new coil and drove approx 3 miles and turned car off. Went to start about 15 min and it cranks but no spark. Waited another 20 min and car started. Drove it home about 15 miles and turned it off. Started another 4 or 5 times right after that trip. Tried to start 15 min. later will not start. Waited another 15 and car started fine. Have replaced coil, ignition control module, cap and rotor. Once car is running all is well. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

Hello Bill. Look at these two websites to determine if any codes can give you a clue to the problem. http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/eec-iv.shtml http://www.thorssell.net/hbook/eectest.html

Put the car on a tester when it starts all codes were good. Put it on the tester when it would not start and then to engine on test she started. stll confused. It has started fine today and tried again a bit later and still started.

It's hard to diagnose an intermittent problem like yours without being there when it happens. I would check all of the wiring connections under the hood to be sure they are clean and tight. There are other sensors including the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors that could cause your problem if they are going bad. Don't forget to check the relay module connector which is in front of the air box by the radiator support.

Re: 94 bird lx 3.8 starting probs

I put another cap and rotor on it and it has been working fine. I think the last cap was put on a bit crooked and ended up pushing the rotor connection down and also ate up part of the caps main connection. I am going to keep a spare cap and rotor in the car just incase. Thanks for your help.
