I've been trying to get the timing right on my 83 but still cant seem to get it right, its either set it to where its too sluggish on acceleration or it makes a faint knock around 45 mph if i step on the gas slighty, or both. I do NOT have timing marks or tab on the cover, so ive been told the only way to set it is by ear (what exactly do you listen for anyway?) It sounds fine where i have it now, no misfires or shakes, but it still doesnt feel right. engine is a 5.0 305 btw

Re: STILL cant get timing correct
Ive been using 87 oc but have been thinking of using at least 89 for at least the next few fillups see if that makes a difference. last tune up was around feb of 2007, and the spark plugs are only a few months old. Im gonna check the spark plugs to make sure they arent fouled out or anything too.
