2000 Neon Rubbing noise

My 2000 Neon has a weird rubbing noise coming from the right side of the engine. You can hear it at idle and it get faster as you rev the engine. The power steering works good, the alternator does not seam to be making any noise but the rubbing is coming from the area around the tensioner. Sounds like rub, rub, rub, rub.....
Any help?

Re: 2000 Neon Rubbing noise

how many miles are on your neon? mine was around 125,000 since a timing belt change and it sounded like a rubbing knocking sound. look to see if a plastic shield is catching a belt or pulley also.

It has about 120,000 miles. I looked around and didn't see anything else the belts could be hitting. Did you do the timing belt yourself? I'm a pretty good alley mechanic but have never done a timing belt.

Re: 2000 Neon Rubbing noise

well i did it on a 1996 (first gen) neon and it wasnt too hard. just really need to take your time and buy a manual at autozone which will help a bunch.
