RPM gauge goes dead

Over the past week now my RPM gauge on my 04 TB has been acting up.

It works fine at start up and for about the first 20 minutes of drive time. Around this time if I arrive at my location and place the vehicle in park, or I noticed this as well sitting at the long stop light, the rpm gauge drops down past normal idle around .5 (half below 1, not an expert here) and then goes down to 0.

When I accelerate it tries to climb back up and after 30 seconds or so it may get to around 1, then the gauge eventually ends up at 0 and stays here for the rest of my travels.

*** The car shifts fine and there is no loss of power so it has to be the gauge or fuse? I guess the cluster shares one fuse and does not have individual fuses?

When I let the car sit for a short time being off, upon returning and starting the car, everything works fine. The gauge pops back up and works fine for about 20 minutes or so and the process starts all over again.

Did I mention this has started when it the outside temp has been very cold, lows into ther 20's and highs in the 30's during the day.

Any insight or perhaps GM recall info is appreciated.

Thanks you and Happy Holidays!

Your Stepper motors on the way out.. on the back of the dash cluster is 6 little motors for rpm, speedo, battery, oil, gas, temp. you can get the parts for under $30.00 on ebay and you needs a soder iron and a gentle hand... takes bout 2 hrs to get cluster out.. replace motors an reassemble..

parts here.. http://stores.ebay.com/SPEEDOMETER-SALES-AND-SERVICE
