Question 99 Grand Am SE gas guage

My gas guage seems to have a mind of its own. When I fill up my tank, it works just fine, but then after I 've put some kilometers on it, the guage will go back and forth from empty to full. Empty to full. This has been going on for a while, and it seems to me that it only starts acting up as my tank gets emptyer. I have to admit having a faulty gas guage really, really sucks. A couple of times I have ran out of gas because of it. So what I do now is just use the trip meter to determine how many kilometers I have put on the current tank, and when I get to 430, thats when I fill it up. But in saying that, I really wish I knew how many litres the tank holds, so then I'll have a better idea how much gas I have left in the tank when I can't rely on the gauge anymore. Does anyone happen to know the amount? Litres or gallons works for me....
Thanks a bunch!

Re: 99 Grand Am SE gas guage

Welcome to AF !

Your problem is commen with 99+ grand ams.
Its the level float sending unit in your tank thats faulty.
Not an expensive part, just have to drop the tank to replace it.

Your fuel tank is 15 gals, 1 gallon = 3.785 liter.
So yours is 58.125 liters aprox.
