Security Bypass
2000 Grand Am
So my ignition switch is busted and I got the car started and running by basically hotwiring it, however, it won't shift out of park. Is there a way to bypass this? There is a steady "SECURITY" light thats on that probably has something to do with why I can't shift. |

Re: Security Bypass
So youre saying you can start it and it runs ?
![]() I dont think it'll shift out of park with out the Brake/Trans Shift Interlock - BTSI solenoid engauging, and the key needs to be in the run position(foot on the brake) in order for this to happen. Could try pulling the fuse for the BTSI, other then that replacing the ignition switch would work. lol Or dismantle the console and disconnect the BTSI solenoid.

Where is the BTSI solenoid located exactly? Or easier yet, where is the BTSI fuse? |

Re: Security Bypass
Pulled the fuse and nothing. Still won't shift out of park. Could a stuck solenoid be causing all this? Also, isn't there a switch in the console somewhere that will override the solenoid?

Re: Security Bypass
Tore the console apart and got it to shift. Now I need a new lock cylinder I guess.
