Re: Squerly, What happened today?
Nothing was going well for me. My times consistently sucked and I couldn't pull it together. Oil was leaking rather abundantly from under the car but there was so much splatter that I can't tell where it's coming from. During qualifying I developed a bad miss, and the engine was "Pop", "Poping" at high RPM's. (I qualified 11th out of 12 which was remarkable in itself as there were only 7 cars racing... go figure.)
The camels back broke when brake fluid started dripping down onto the floor and my feet were sliding all around... My truck decided to get into the act by presenting me with a flat tire and I was left to wonder what kind of drugs that GM gives its designers as it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to get at the spare. (this is another story in itself) But no safety equipment came into play ths time and I managed to limp back home without leaving any Panoz parts at the track.

Squerly,
Sounds like you got all the bad stuff done in one outing. That means no more bad luck for the rest of the year. David |

Re: Squerly, What happened today?
Ok, we all are sick pups....We have all had days like this and we continue. Man when it good its really good and that keeps us going....
Sorry about your weekend. I rememeber one trip when the tire blew on the F250 (this is way back). When the tire exploded it took out one of the brake lines. Hose clamp helped but had to drive from Ft.Pierce to Delray (about 50+ mi.) on congress at 1 am. I was affraid I wasnt able to stop the car (which I wasnt). All I had was e-brake and downshifting the auto. I was towing 2 cars and a big trailer. Another trip in an F350 with a lift kit (I bought the truck used). Seems the lift was not installed correctly and the pinion angle was wrong. Well the driveshaft came off at about 70 mph (was that scary). If the truck didnt have 4 wheel drive we would have been done. Front wheel drive on a dually will get you home.....Man the stories... Man, when its bad its BAD!!!! The next trip will be flawless! :-)

Re: Squerly, What happened today?
Wow, talk about a rough weekend!! Sorry to hear it!
Did you figure out where the oil was coming from? I found my fuel pickup in the fuel cell had somehow gotten raised up halfway up the tank, which is why i was getting fuel starvation with less than 3/4 tank. could you miss be fuel related? I hope its not serious?

Re: Squerly, What happened today?
We will see if I can do it again.... Tap the brakes and go.. thru turn 1 requires titanium balls.
I noticed that all of the GTO guys were running about 2 seconds slower than normal. Was the track slippery? If you have not already done so, studying this video helped me out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYcmkakaCW0 Check him out in turn 14. He is on the gas before the apex of 14 which allows him to carry tremendous speed onto the straight. I know that is your FAVORITE turn ! I still cant get the 8/9 combo down the way I would like. Did you see Mike out there? Will he have his Panoz ready for April? Doug |

Squerly,
How are things coming along? Were you able to diagnose the engine issues? Doug |

I got a call from the mechanic yesterday afternoon. Turns out the "oil" isn't oil after all... it's coming from the transmission. But they have to pull the tranny to find the cause. You probably don't remember but I lost 3rd gear and had to have the transmission rebuilt and I had just gotten it back a few days before the VIR event 3 weeks ago. So now I have to either pay someone to pull and find the problem or trailer it 6 hours back to where I had it "fixed". I'm not happy.

Re: Squerly, What happened today?
put the tranny in a box and send it to promotion. Walt will not only fix it but make it stronger and better. There is no better. I had people all of the country tell me about him....I have used him a few times with amazinf results....
