Unhappy 95 G20 won't run.

Several weeks ago while riding in my Husband's G20 van, it began hesitating like it was running out of fuel. He has replaced O2 sensor, plugs, distributor, rotor, throttle position sensor and checked for leaks, nothing. It will start and idles roughly, sort of a surge. He gets a code 44 from the computer. As soon as you go to put it in gear it will stall. We are at our wits end, we have tried everything suggested, including removing the O2 sensor to see if the CAT is blocked, no difference, blocking off fuel lines to see if the pump is bad and taking the vacuum lines of the EGR to see if it is bad. Nothing works. Can anyone help.

What engine?
What is the fuel pressure reading?
Clear code and see if it comes back.

It's a 5.7L. A friend took a fuel pressure reading and got 8.
Cleared the code many times and still get the same 44.

The only way we don't get a 44 is if the O2 sensor is out.

8 lbs of fuel pressure is low and code 44 is lean exhaust.
9-3 is specs on fuel pressure.
I like to see 11-12 lbs.
Check fuel filter and fuel condition.
Check fuel pressure with truck running and on the road.
May be starving for fuel.

Put a brand new fuel filter in and put in some noxice, thought maybe ran too low and condensation was in the fuel. Friend pulled the fuel line and said it looked ok. Can't get it on the road, when you put it in gear it stalls right out. Hasn't run on the road for a month. This problem started a month ago when we were on a drive. After going approx. 5 miles it started when we came off a red light. It acted like we were running out of gas. Put fuel in it, but it had no power on hills tried to die out got it home and it hasn't moved since.

Recheck fuel pressure and make sure you have good hot blue spark to more than one spark plug.
Have you checked dist cap and rotor?

Van went to the garage. They claim it was the cat, but after they replaced it, they still couldn't get it to run right. Without me knowing it they replaced the map, the engine coolant sensor, the ignition module in the cap, cap and rotor and coil. We insisted in getting it back and they kept saying they wanted to work on it some more, because they didn't want us to screw up another cat. We insisted on getting it on Thursday and they charged us $651.12 and it is still running the same. I called the BBB and reported them, that's not getting our van to work we are at a total loss.

That is a sad deal.
If it was me I would take them to court or small claims court.
Almost 20 days and 651.12$ and still not running right would make a very good case against them.

If you want to DIY it post back and someone will help you.

Or.
On finding a good repair shop.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
