So im sure a lot of you can relate to this. Your about to put some loud pipes on your truck, or in my case and most others, already have, and have been doing some research and talking to some muffler shops. Now you want it very loud but nothing illegal like gutting the cat. What i ran into was shop after shop after shop just telling me the same, cat-back exhaust. They promise you this is as loud as you can get it and the sound is amazing, which im deff not complaining. You then can opt for names like Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc or in my case, just a custom cat-back exhaust. Now its on, and your excited and think you have the loudest truck in town. Just then a newer chevy or a nice dodge ram will roar by completley making your truck sound like nothing.
This is for all you guys who know your truck is loud, you just know it. You know there is something you have over the other guy on his exhaust something unique or a little diff which makes it louder. You know it beats the basic cat-backs. What im wanting to know is what exhaust set up are on your trucks. What the thing on your truck that makes your truck way more louder than others. I mean it can be obvious at times, it sometimes can be like a harley roaring down, crackling, and you know it is just way louder. Now there is a kid down the street that thinks he's cool because he took out out his cat, and flys by, gets complaint after complaint, so im not looking to hear about people taking their cats off. Plus, that kid blew his tranny a few weeks later The thread is set up for everyone out there that just has a one of a kind exhaust and makes it way louder than everyone elses. I've thought of suggestions like throwing headers on, diff pipe sizes, special cats, y-pipes, glasspacks, etc so i know there can be many different combonations. Yet for the truck guy out there that knows his truck is way louder than everyone elses, lets hear about it. Who knows their chevy/sierra 1500's are loud, much louder than everyday cat backs, and how is your exhaust done...?

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
Yeah i know what you are talking about, i have 2.5 inch pipe from the Y at the headers to a "Cherry Bomb" (thats what some call it) magnaflow highflow cat. Then i have dual 2.5's running to the rear and exiting. My truck is realatively quiet at idle, but when you get on it it roars and is really loud. and when you rev it it kinda crackles and winds down, plus mine gave me about 1.5 more mpg, on the highway, nothing much really in the city.

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
And you want a loud exhaust why?
Nothing personal but seeking a loud exhaust simply for the reason of more noise would seem to be a useless childish goal without benifit, yet highly annoying to most other in the general public and at the very least dangerous and harmfull to others not mentioning yourself because you obviously do not care about the possible loss of hearing you may sustain. I won't even go into the households you can and no doubt will disturb with your noise, but will mention that your "overly loud exhaust" is against the law in just about every state and many countries, and for good reason. Having the rumble of a nice aftermarket exhaust that improves performance as well as economy is one thing but what you advocate is another all together. The mods can ban me from this board over this post if they wish but I think post's like yours should be banned, they only enable juveniles like yourself spread the word on how to achieve an ignorant goal. |

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
I have a flowmaster cat back with a single 3" out the side on a HD Gmc with Dual cats (one for each side of the engine) These cats are stock, but less restrictive than the half ton trucks that only have one cat. Dual pipes off engine through the sepperate cats and then they connect and go to one FlowMaster. It is a special order race car muffler that is only about 6" long. I can't remember the part #. Basically it provides no muffling at all. The truck sounds awesome at about 4000 rpm. And I got 2 mpg better than stock.

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
I have the same set up as you, true dual flowmaster. It does sound great, but not overly loud. I work with a guy that had a 95 K1500, 5.7L straight pipes i believe 3", with no cats, exiting behind each wheel, auto. Loud at idle, and when on it could barely here. I had an 92 s10, v6 with high flow and straight pipes, i thought it was loud until I was next to this guy when he was on it.

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
I know what your saying there is a dumba$$ that lives around here that has a 98 Dodge Ram with dual glass packs and it's "LOUD" as in you can clearly hear him for almost a mile away , i have a pretty loud truck myself though nothing too too loud but loud enough to say im happy and can hear myself think , i currently have dual FlowMasters with 2.5" all through, and am going to get myself a nice set of headers , just gotta wait and see what would be the best for the buck.. If anyone has any good ideas for a 1994 Gmc Sierra ext cab with a 350 , for a great set of headers just send me a pm, i need all the help i can get.

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
Hey I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to make my 2000 GMC Sierra 5.3 sound louder. I currently have a flowmaster super 40 series American Thunder cat back system on my truck, but i want it to be louder. I am usually driving my truck in the country and i sound weak compared to some of the trucks out there. Any suggestions on how to make it loud?
Thanks |

Re: Sierra/Silverado Guys, C/K guys, WHO HAS THE LOUDEST DUAL EXHAUST OUT THERE
I have a typical cat back dual exhaust. I like the sound coming from the back of the truck at idle, but I want it as quiet as possible on the highway. I just can't stand the noise. I sometimes turn the radio off for the same reason. Any suggestions would help

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Tailpipes require the spare tire to be removed. I opted to have a local muffler shop bend some 2.5 inch tailpipes with slash cut tips so I could retain the spare. The muffler is a strait through turbo design so with the stock or aftermarket dual cats you'll actually have true duals. I run the above system on a '96 GMC Sierra Z71 4X4 extra cab with a 5.7L Vortec. For me, it's not about how loud it is, it's about the tone or sound. I'm an old hot rodder who has owned classic vehicles ranging from 350HP to 650HP so I have an idea what a V8 should sound like. "Loud as possible" is certainly not it. In fact, us hardcore guys make fun of those nasty sounding cars. Just my opinion. |
