Advice needed replicating velour or alcantara fabric

Hi all
I'm going to be starting on the dashboard of the F430 Challenge, and I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to get a really matt finish to replicate the alcantara dashboard?

What I'd like to do is spray a light grey/charcoal mix, but I'm not sure about whether to use lacquers or Tamiya matt acrylics. I seem to remember that using lighter fluid as a thinner gets a matt finish (but can't remember where I read this)?

I imagine spray distance, pressure and thinning ratio also determine the finish, and I'd like to hear your experiences with this.

Thanks
Graham

Re: Replicating velour or alcantara fabric

I would probably try a base coat of any kind of finish (gloss or flat) then cover it with ultra flat clear. If that doesn't get your desired effect, try a coat of color followed by some talcum powder on the freshly sprayed paint as a flocking, then another light color coat.
