96 neon fuse problem

my daughter has a 96 plymouth neon and the other day it stopped running. the fuse for the engine ignition feed burned out. we replaced it and it blew again after a short drive. has anyone else had this happen so we can begin to rule out what the problems might be? we bought the book for the car but it is not much help with this problem

I think the first thing I would try would be replacing the coil assembly on top of the engine. Its a distributor less ignition system, and that coil assembly is not hard to replace. They are pricey though. One from a junkyard would be much cheaper to try. They dont fail very often, but then neither do fuses for the engine ignition.
Also, you should check to see if any 'codes' are stored in the computer. How to do this, and where to find a list of the codes, is explained in the answer to the 5th question in the FAQ Posting. Its at the top of this same subforum, for 1st generation Neons. Even though the Check Engine Light is not on, doesnt mean there is not a trouble code stored.

Before you replace the coil, unplug it. Then see if the fuse still blows. If it does the coil is not the problem! If it doesn't than plug the coil back if it blew right away than I would agree that the coil is a likely culprit!

If you are talking about the fuel pump fuse blowing, then the O2 wiring would be your culprit, most likely. It will ground out on the axle and blow the fuse.
