98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
I am having trouble removing the left front bracket that mounts to the cylinder head. I removed the top bolt and the bottom bolt to the left behind the water pump. I also dropped the ac compressor. I can not get this thing off. Is there a trick or am I missing something? Anyone have a diagram or a picture of that bracket?
Thanks in advance. |

Re: 98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
There are 2 very long bolts that go thru bottom of a/c compressor
There is one short bolt on bottom left near compressor and the one at the top. That is it. Are you going in for head gaskets? I am putting mine back together later this week when it warms back up. I dread the alternator the worse but still have to get the compressor and that mount back on too. |

Re: 98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
I have removed the two ac bolts, the one behind the compressor and the one up top. I tapped it with a hammer and still no luck any tricks? There is a dowl pin on the head, do you need to spin the bracket on that pin?

Quote:
If you have the four bolts out and it should be loose. You have the two long ones out on the bottom - how about the short top one for the compressor - make sure you have this one/top a/c bolt removed too as the compressor has to be free so it swings back a bit. There are 3 bolts on the compressor - but only the bottom two are in the bracket. Then it should be easy. |

Re: 98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
Cressidaadr has it right, there are 3 bolts and you must move the compressor so the bracket can lift up behind it. The dowel the bracket sits on is really a head bolt with a top hat shape to hold the bracket. I had to purchase a deep well just for that bolt.

Re: 98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
Thanks fellas. I checked and rechecked it to see if i had missed a bolt. It was just stuck on the dowel pin. Number one cylinder had a blown out head gasket. Number two cylinder was not far behind though. Taking the heads in to have them checked and I will be reassembling soon.

Re: 98 Chevy Venture Left front motor mount bracket
GM went crazy with fastening this mount. I have a 2002 Chevy Venture with A/C and there were 4 bolts and one pin holding the left motor mount. The "finger sized Pin" on the upper left corner of the mount (as has been noted) is the lower left most head bolt, so be careful. Spray the pin with penetrant first while you work on the other bolts to give the penetrant time to do its job. The obvious top bolt is easy. The bolt just above the left A/C bolt is also fairly easy. The two top bolts from the A/C need to be pulled almost all the way out. It's tight, and I probably should have removed the radiator fan to get that A/C bolt out, especially for the right bolt. The third A/C bolt (below the compressor on the left side) needs to be loosened so the compressor does not pinch the motor mount bracket. Last, try taping/twisting the motor mount around the head bolt to work the penetrant in. I did not have to resort to heat, but you may have to.
![]() P.S. The little "bypass hose" by this mount has high negative pressure when the thermostat is closed. Even if the hose/"spring clamps" look good, it can suck air into the coolent system. Replace the clamps with "screw type hose clamps".
