Noise from the Left front

Hi,

I am getting noise from my front left. The noie is more like a metal grinding noise and is not continuous. And does not come only while left/right turn or like that.

I know I have play in my left inner tie rod. Can it be because of it or something else?

Thanks...

Re: Noise from the Left front

It could be one of several things but probably not the tie rod end.
The first place to look is tire clearance. Are you running oversize wheels and/ or tires?
Check to see if they are rubbing somewhere (usually the inner fender cover).
Check the inner fender covers and the engine under covers. Sometimes they can break at the mounting points and get in the way of the tire.
After checking all of that, the next steps would be to check the brakes, and then the axles.
Of course, you would replace as necessary.

Good luck!

should also check the wheel bearings in the hub. safely support the car on jack stand, then grasp tire on top and bottom. push and pull on each end. there should be no play in the wheel. if there is, more than likely the hub is shot.

Thanks...the brakes are new and were changed few weeks back only. The noise was before the brakes were changed too.

I will check the bearing and the inner fender cover...Will keep you posted...

Hubs are pretty common on these. The hub is the part with the studs that the wheel attaches to. It is pressed into the wheel bearing. To replace the hub the bearing will need to be replaced as well. These are pressed in so there not necessarily do-it-yourself friendly. however you can pull the knuckle yourself and bring it in to have the bearing and hub pressed in and out.
