Replacing struts

I'm looking at replacing the old front struts (at 175,000 Km). As well as the struts, a site said the "strut mounts are a wear item". Do they go? Obviously, I don't want to take the car apart to find I need to order more parts.
What's normal to replace with the struts?
Thanks

i think there trieing to tell you that you should put the upper bearing plates on them when you replace the struts and there on the very top of the struts and if there waren you do need to replace them and do it right and not have to tear back down if you needed them in the first place.

Re: Replacing struts

The front mounts are a wear item. Each are $40 at autozone/AA. If you have the $$ id replace them. If not, then it should be ok with out them. Note when removing them from the spring, they may stick. Do NOT PULL on them, use a screwdriver and some PB blaster to slowly unstick them. If you pull on them, you can pull the mount apart (which can be put back together) but also shoots about 30 3mm ball all over your garage. I know this from experience

Re: Replacing struts

Thanks for the replies.
I guess "do it once, right", applies.
BTW: the loose bearing sounds familiar.
Do you know that electrical things run on smoke? When you let the smoke out of the parts, they don't work anymore....

Re: Replacing struts

You might want to check and see if you can get complete strut assemblies. They include the strut, spring and bearing plate, all pre-assembled and ready to install. Easier and safer than swapping your springs over and the bearing plate is also covered.

Re: Replacing struts

Yeah, they are more money but it makes the job much easier. Some people might not mind paying more for that.
