Re: Amuse 350z Super Leggera Conversion

More on the 350Z. This single part has been my project for the past week.
On the real Amuse 350Z, there's a front undertray which is all one piece with the front lip. Of course, there had to be one on the model too.

Mine is pretty basic-the real one is much more complex and would require major reworking of the chassis to fit-so this'll do. It's built entirely out of styrene, and looks pretty good thus far. The gaps at the front (between it and the lip) are still rough, but they'll be dealt with later.

An added bonus is that this will make the painting of the chassis easier-no masking for the engine anymore!

Not yet. It's still on my to-do list for the Z.

I've been working like mad lately on the 350Z and I have progress to show! I wasn't planning on posting another update so soon, but I've got a fair number of pictures to show already so I decided it'd be a good time to post.
I've started on the most complex part of the build: the fenders. Not only are they wider than stock, but have a very unique venting set-up which will take a fair bit of time to re-create.

I started off by measuring and marking where the initial cuts for the vents would have to be made. Once masked, I drilled around the perimeter and then ran a knife along to cut the pieces out.

The lower section was rebuilt using several layers of styrene, glued together and sanded back. The sideskirt had to be sanded back too, and later on the front section will be built. The dimensions still need some tweaking though, as the lower vent is sitting way too wide when compared to the reference. Up top I glued a section of strip styrene to begin the upper half of the fender, and some putty has also been added and sanded to shape.

Because the fender now curves in so much, it's also eliminated the unsightly gap between the body and the chassis. Compare the two sides to see the difference.

And then to finish, I couldn't resist some mock-up shots.

Next up the lower vent will be thinned down and then the upper half of the fender can be framed and started. After that it's all repeated on the driver's side.

Nice work so far, those vents look pretty complicated, esp the rear ones. Good luck and I cant wait to see more

The vents are a little tricky, but this is why we have styrene and putty.

Thanks AustinMartin! No updates yet, as I've been working on another build for a group build on another forum. It should be done tonight, and hopefully I can pick up the 350Z again soon.

Re: Amuse 350z Super Leggera Conversion

Wow-4 stars! Thanks everyone! Now I have some more motivation to get back to work.

I finished the other build I had going on, a Modifiers Integra Type R. Nothing fancy, just a relaxed build to take a break from the more intense projects. Now it's done though, so the workbench is free again.

Except, most of my free time (And money...) is going towards this now, which further slows progress on my scale cars.

I hope to get a few things out of the way this next week and then maybe I can pull the 350Z out of its box.

Re: Amuse 350z Super Leggera Conversion

Time for some (tiny) progress!
The rollcage is now done. After some bodywork to smooth all of the seams, it was primered and painted TS-42 Gunmetal to match the center console. I debated some brighter colours, but I like how the darker gunmetal matches the rest of the interior.

Continuing with the interior, I decided to have a little fun and took some inspiration from my daily driver, by scratchbuilding a Broadway mirror.

At this point it still has to be painted and detailed, but finals are looming so modelling will have to take a backseat.
That's all for now, hope you like it!
