Trans fluid change
Somebody shed some light on a Trans question for me? I have heard that if it has been a while since the trans fluid and filter has been changed that it is best not to do it? Is this indeed true and if so what is the magic number of miles one should not change the fluid and filter after? I have an 02 that had the fluid and filter changed at approx. 35 to 40K and now i have close to 97k is it too late to change fluid and filter now?

Re: Trans fluid change
If the fluid is really dirty (dark red), it may contain friction material that is suspended in fluid. This helps the worn out clutches hold. When new clean fluid is used, the clutches can slip and a rebuild is necessary.
For you, it is about 50K since the last fluid and filter change. I would change it and then do it every 25K. If the fluid looks real bad then maybe hold off. Just my opinion. //2000CAYukon |

Re: Trans fluid change
If your fluid looks clean I would say you are OK. I changed mine at 50K, 100K, and 135K, no problems.

Re: Trans fluid change
Better now than never.
Just a pan drop and filter. Stay with dexron/mercon fluid. Dexron 3 is nor made anymore. After filter change watch for any codes or transmission shifting problems. Good luck

I would also consider that you replace the fluid again , after a few thousand miles , because of the vehicles age. so that you have a good percentage of the new dexron VI... I also replace the fluid at 30-40,ooomi...I also use synthetic fluid by mobil ...I find that the filter/pan debris/shifting works better.. |
