Key won't come out of ignition on my 95

It turns off, but I am not sure if full off. Clock and all accessories are off but oil light and transmission gear indicator stay on. And of course key won't pull out. Anyone else have this problem?

YES! I have a 99 Concorde and what happens is I leave for work in the morning when the car is cold at first it is very hard to get it out of park you have to force it out and then Ill drive up the street to get gas and my keys will not come out of the ignition when I arrive at work once the car is hot the keys come out fine.. A friend of mine is saying its something with the linkage

It works and then it doesn't. It may be connected to the safety component in the cylinder that prevents the key from being removed when the car is in gear. Like it isn't reading the car as being in park. Seems to happen more in colder weather. I will report when it seizes completely and let you know what I find

Re: Key won't come out of ignition on my 95

It is related to that safety mechanism.

What possibly happened is, the car was not in park when it was shut off and the rod that prevents the key from fully turning to the off position is locked in place due to the shifter not being placed in park, when you shift to park, a cable is pulled that allows the rod to drop allowing the switch to be completely turned off. But, with the key turned towards off position it will lock the rod in place and will not allow it to drop when the cable is pulled. To release the rod, just slightly turn the key back towards the on position and you will hear the rod drop and then the key will fully turn off.

Re: Key won't come out of ignition on my 95

The problem turned out to be the thumb button on the shifter was not fully popping out so the park lock wasn't always disengaging. By tapping and pulling I can get it to come out. That last little bit seems critical.
Not sure how to lube that part. I might just saturate it with WD40. Thanks for the responses.
