S15 jimmy looses power on highway

1989 s15 Jimmy 4x4. 2.8 Timberline, Odometer 150k+

Parts replace in the last week Feb 09. Timing chain and gears, cap, rotor, wires plugs, coil. Idles great now, no more high low RPM.

Running down the highway 5 minutes the SES light comes on after a loss of power. It does not die. Then it becomes a Rollscanhardly. I shut the engine off, coasting at 70mph waited 3 sec. and compression started it in 5th gear. SES light was off and the power was back. It smells sower when I park it and no water or oil leaks.

I have no clue, but it is very irritating.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked for any codes?

The smell makes me believe it is a cat converter problem, but retrieve codes before throwing parts at it. Here is a link with procedure to retrieve codes if you do not the process:
