Thump Thump Thump from front passenger.
1997 GTP
My daughters car has a thump, thump, thump coming from the passengers front side during heavy acceleration, only during heavy acceleration. Does not do it when turning or going straight at normal speeds. I replaced the front struts and mounts (they were shot, both struts and mounts). Still has the thump. Ball joints were tight. Ordered new hubs, both front bearings have slop in them, will try to get them installed this weekend. Any ideas what could cause the thumps? CV joint maybe? |

Re: Thump Thump Thump from front passenger.
look at your tires and see if you have flat spot's on it. a cv joint when turning should make a real noticable click click if cv joint is bad. did you look and see if boot is cracked and loosing grease out of it? usually it's the outer boot. also you might want to check moter mout and tranny mount. here do this put it in drive and hold on to brake and give it gas and see if your moter raises same with tranny mount. you say your putting new hubs and bearings on it that could also be the thump. does the car pull at all like right or left when your going strait and let off steering wheel? i'll check back later after you replace hubs and bearings..good luck..

Re: Thump Thump Thump from front passenger.
Hello Scrapper,
I had the tires rotated yesterday, tires were in good shape. When I replaced the struts I checked the boots, inner and outer in good shape with no leaks. Car drives straight does not pull to one side or the other. I will check the motor and trans mounts tomorrow to see if engine moves. Will let you know if hub change helps. Thanks. |

Re: Thump Thump Thump from front passenger.
The CV joints could be bad. They will cause a thump under hard acceleration even if you don't hear clicking at low speed. The bearing replacement is a good idea especially if you say they are loose. Make sure to torque the axle nuts properly once you do replace them.

Re: Thump Thump Thump from front passenger.
I got hubs and axles in finally, replaced both driver and passenger sides.
I don't know which one it was (axle or hubs), but, the thump, thump, thump is gone. The thread below really helped. Made it a lot easier. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=909924 Thanks for the help. |
