Off Track!!! Help Please!!!!

So I'm attending a work function tonight and as I park my car and begin to roll my window up it FALLS OFF THE TRACK!!! Has anyone had this problem? Is the issue simple enough for me to fix it myself? I'm really not trying to spend hundreds of dollars just to get my windo back on track... And my TINT!!!!!! I could hear that tearing and ripping as the window fell... I'm so pissed...

You have to pull the door panel off the inside and look. If you have power windows it is different than roll up. Check what you need and go to the dealer parts or junk yard. Parts store carry some items but not all.

I understand that part, but I can still here the motor moving so does that mean it's just off track?

Its been a long time but I think Chevy has a plastic belt with teeth. Sometimes these break and sometimes the gear strips out. That why you have to look.

Re: Off Track!!! Help Please!!!!

How exactly has it fallen off the track. the front portion of your window alot lower than the back part of it? Mine does that sometimes on the driverside (knock on wood hasn't for the last 6 months) I have to open the door up, and undo the track's bolt and slip the front of the window back in it, then retigthen the bolt. My track's kinda rusted from moisture pentrating, so I need to get a new door.

Re: Off Track!!! Help Please!!!!

UPDATE:
I took my car to a friend and found out that the regulater went out... I ended up at Advance auto and only paid $114 for the regulator and motor... The install was pretty simple... the hardest part was figuring out how everything worked and what to unscrew or take out, but that only too about 30 minutes...

Once i got the door panel off (pain in the azz), I had to peel the foam from the actual metal, ruined the foam... but I noticed that there were only six bolts to remove so i removed those and the regulater and motor fell to the bottom of the door... I had to cut the wires leading from the door to the inside of the car in order to make the install a lil easier... I pulled out the old slid the new one in bolted it up and spliced the wires (the new part came with a plug but there was nothing to plug it into) and done...

Needless to say I was happy with the project and it's results... Finding out that it was so simple is a relief because now i can warn everybody and hopefully keep them from waisting about $300 to $400 for something that only took a couple of hours...

Now on to fixing my tint...

Re: Off Track!!! Help Please!!!!

They will also charge you 3 times as much as you could get the part for aftermarket. These regulators are pretty common failure items, and you can get the parts other places besides the dealer.

Re: Off Track!!! Help Please!!!!

So true, If I had gone to the dealer I mostlikely would have paide more like $200 just for the regulator but I got the regulator and the motor for $114... Go to advanced auto and they'll give you a brand new one... the outer layer of the cable is plastic but the actual cable is a metal wire...

up north we had a lot of ice storms..many chevy trucks had the cables pop...also take note...you must grease these cables as many will rust in less than 2 years ...I have replaced many of these cable regulators on the trucks....I use 1A auto for these parts...free shipping and high quality..they even have a warrantee..for around 100.oo each..
