'05 GMC Sierra air compressor question

'05 GMC Sierra 5.3L

with the air conditioner not selected, but heat on

should the air compressor clutch intermittently engage???

Heat or Defrost? It is normal to come on if Defrost is selected. It helps removing moisture from the windshield and keep the compressor seals from drying out.
