Power Windows Problem

Hi guys I need some help and hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction :-)

Out of the blue 3 of my power windows stopped working at the same time meaning they do not go up or down at all and only the driver's side window still works. The only thing that happens when I hit either the master control switch or the individual ones is I hear a clicking noise. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Re: Power Windows Problem

Hi. I'm new here and hope someone can help me too.
I am having the same problems with my 94 Passat, but all of my windows died at the same time. I don't get any clicking sound when I hit the switches, though. Makes me think it might be a fuse, but I can't find which fuse it would be. The dealer couldn't tell me where the fuse was either and I really don't want to take it to those overpriced jokers. Hopefully someone can help us here. Thanks!

Exclamation Re: Power Windows Problem

ALright, if only a few of your windows have ceased to work then that means that the power supply wire (largest guage wire if memory serves me) runing through the boots in the door jams have separated/corroded/pinched apart. However, there is also the possibility that the switches, either those mounted in the dash or on the doors, have gone terribly bad. On the flip side of things, my 93 vw passat GLX VR6 had an issue of absolutely no windows working. It turned out to be the windows control module under the passenger back seat...so what im saying is, if you have no windows and hear no relay clicking from the back seat region upon testing the window switches its very likely that the relay located inside the windows control module has fried. But again, unfortunately, i suppose it could aslo just be the power wire rotted out leading to the control module. So all you need to do is either pay dearly for the new unit or simply take the stupid thing apart and clean it out with pressurized air, etc. and replace the easy-to-find relay within... Do your homework and this could turn out to be one of the easiest fixes you've ever delt with on your hellwagen. - this is me smoking

I have a very similar problem in my 2001 Elantra. All 4 of my windows sometimes work. It seems that when the driver's side window dosn't work, it clicks (relay). When the other 3 dont work, they dont do anything, even click. Regardless of if I use the D. side buttons, or individual. The car has 'window locks'. I dont know if maybe the lock is sticking or something else. I plan on starting with removing the acess panel on the armrest, and looking for something loose. This is the first car I have had that has pwr anything, so I thought maybe I'mjust using it wrong I have only had it 2 days. Any advice would be appreciated.....Sarah Ps VW death, thanks for the advice you offered too. I will look for the fat pinched wire. I also have no repair manuel, and have only removed 1 door panel in my life before, so this will be an adventure, especially considering the car is so new to me and 11 yrs newer than my last car haha !
