2001 lesabre evap canister location

Hellow everybody,

I got the "loos fuel cap" message with the PCM error code P0440, checked the fuel cap and my next step in debug/diagnosing this is to locate the evap canister and it's purging valve and do some inspection, anyone knows where the canister located?

Your help is appriciated.

(car is 2001 Buick lesabre custom)

The purge valve is just to the left of the oil filler. It has a couple vacuum lines going into it.

The purge valve is a easy fix. Should cost under $20.00 at a parts house. I replaced mind with no trouble.

Re: 2001 lesabre evap canister location

Thanks all , found the evap canister just behind the fuel filter, and the purge valve above the oil filling cap, while inspecting the purge valve i noticed a cracked rubber elbow connecting the purge valve to the intake line- hoping this was setting the code. Is there a way to check the purge valve or should I just replace it to be on the safe side? (when i tool it off, it both inputs or outputs were seald).

Thanks again.

I wouldn't change it unless it is throwing a trouble code

Re: 2001 lesabre evap canister location

actualy it started with "loose gas cap" message on the DIC, then later on the Service engine light went on with trouble code P0440, wasn't sure if there is any way to check this valve "offline" before changing it.

By the way, one weird thing I have noticed that this valuve has only 2 hoses connected to it, one goes to the canister and the other to the intake, while all the documentation I have found was saying there should be additional vacum hose

Fix this - reset the code and hope for the best.

I replaced the canister solenoid on my 1999 and it fixed it.

Re: 2001 lesabre evap canister location

an update:
took out the purge valve and tested it with external 12V power supply, it is working. Then I located the Evap vent solenoid and guess what.. it was bad, i saw the plunger spring was out of it's place and the solenoid was stuck open, fixed it and tested it externally and i seems to be working now, put it back on the car checked it is getting 12V on one lead, however it seems that the PCM is not activating it for some reason, tomorrow i wall probe it's leads after cold start to monitor if it gets and GND signal from the PCM, so it's trending towards the vent solenoid now, will keep updating.

Re: 2001 lesabre evap canister location

alright, i promised my self to post when i nail this down, it was the evap vent solenoid
been a couple of weeks since I fixed the plunger's spring in the evap vent solenoid and no more "loose fuel cap" or check engine light since.

Thanks for all the friends for the help and follow up on this.

Gilmour.
