no start

I brought the car down from up north it ran fine. then one day it just quit running. I took it to a shop. they wanted 600.00 for a tune up. well i got it home did the tune up myself but didn't replace the cap and rotor. It still won't start. but it smells like it's getting too much gas too. Is it because it wont' start and it's just pouring gas in. Please help.

A complete tune up should include a cap and rotor also, maybe some plug wires also if needed.
Check to see if you have spark, sounds like you are getting enough fuel.

Good luck

Sounds to me that the float is stuck, or the needle is stuck open. I've had a purge valve failure 5 years ago that caused the charcoal from the canister to work its way into the float bowl and this resulted in what you are experiencing now.

Re: no start

well, i just went through the same thing. i even replaced the ignition module to no avail. i was getting spark (weak), and fuel but no boom. an old timer told me (and i laughed at him when he suggested this) that his 60s impala would do the same thing from time to time and he would take a heavy screw driver and thump the coil and would get it to fire... i ended up replacing the cap, rotor, and coil at the same time and it finally fired... then i did a full tuneup
