Can't find coolant fan relay-1988 Le Sabre

We have a 1988 Le Sabre Limited with 3.8L V-6 3800. Need to know the location of the cooling fan relay switch. We found 2 that look like it in the front driver's side, near the air breather box, but the numbers don't match the numbers on the new part that we bought. Wondering if you could tell us the location, or which one it is. Thanks!

Welcome to AF! I think you found it under the hood, driver side, front side of strut tower, mounted on wheel-well. Standard Products #RY241T—Four Seasons Part # 35744 {#36006} Looks like pic below.

Thanks for the info. We found & changed it, but fan still not working. Will get the other relay tomorrow & try it. Any other suggestions, if it's not the relays?

Will the fan run with AC on? Is the car overheating? What is the engine temp? The fan should not come on with AC off, until engine temp reaches 210-212.

Re: Can't find coolant fan relay-1988 Le Sabre

The A/C has been bypassed. We think the serpentine belt broke, and the previous owner had to make due with a shorter belt the service station had in stock to get home, and so had to bypass the A/C. It is not really showing signs of getting hot, but the weather has been cold. We have let it idle, driven it for 45 minutes to an hour (mostly 55 mph roads, but up to 70 mph). There is no temp. gauge, so we don't really know if it's getting hot, or not, but don't think the fan has come on yet. (We just got the car, and the previous owner said it would get hot.)

Re: Can't find coolant fan relay-1988 Le Sabre

You may have to wait until warmer weather to see if the fans will come on. The fans are controlled by the ECM with feedback from the engine temp sensor. The EMC grounds the primary fan relay when temp reaches 210 F and the secondary fan relay when temp reaches 225 F. You could manually ground the fan relays. or apply 12V to the fans positive terminal to see if they will run.
