01 Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 Power Steering & Coolant Problem

Well, just what the title says, I'm having some issues with the power steering and coolant right now.

I seem to have the power steering narrowed down to the high pressure line from the pump, but now I have a problem with leaking coolant.

I have no idea what to call this thing its leaking out of, and the guy at Advance Auto tried to sell me a quick connect for a hydraulic line so I have taken a picture for you all to see...

The black piece, the leak is coming out the bottom of it....now after looking I'm thinking I'll just get some of that high temp gasket maker crud and call it a day, but I'd like to fix it right if possible..

Next, my power steering... my Jeep is bleeding

That was after sitting for about 3 or 4 minutes. If I open the cap on the pump and then close it again it releases the pressure and doesn't leak as fast.

This is whats causing it...

Won't tighten down anymore, so I'm just going to replace it.

Anybody else have any thoughts or input or maybe a name for that mysterious black piece?

Ok the first thing is the thermostat housing. If that is leaking coolant, you will probably need a thermostat. The gasket is part of the thermostat.
For your power steering,it looks like you are using atf for power steering. Not recommended, but that's another thing. The part that is leaking looks like the high pressure hose.It is a quick connect type fitting, but it doesn't come apart once it is connected. You will have to replace the hose.I can't tell from your picture, but you should have the hydraulic cooling fan and that hose goes from the pump to the bottom of the fan.The hardest thing about changing it is starting the new hose in the pump .Be extremely careful because it is very easy to cross thread it.Also the new ones have a different fitting( if you get O.E.M.,I don't know about aftermarket) and the fitting only goes in about 3 or 4 threads and it doesn't seem like it is in right when it is.

I used ATF as a quick and cheep solution to keep the pump from running completely dry since it has been leaking so bad.

I finally figured out thats where the thermostat was, fixing some problems with my bank account and picking up the parts to get it all fixed.

Thanks for all the input!

See the 00 and the 01 are completely different. The 01 I had to go to the dealership for, cost me $83 NONE of the parts stores had the correct part, checked for years 00-05, nothing was even close.

I just need to replace the thermostat now, ugh.
