94 Dakota Tensioner Question

I just replaced my timing chain, timing chain tensioner, thermostat, water pump, and idler pulley on my 94 Dakota. My question is when the mechanic took it all apart he said it had never been cracked into. Now with that said there was no tensioner (I saw it with my own eyes). Is the timing chain tensioner a fix by Dodge or did they not come with one from the factory????

Re: 94 Dakota Tensioner Question

If it's a 3.9 it didn't come with one. They can be added to get rid of the chain rattle problem they have.

Re: 94 Dakota Tensioner Question

Thanks for the answer. Yes it is a 3.9L Magnum. And the chain had a hell of a lot of slack in it when I saw it. Of course the motor has 160,000 miles on it but it was owned by a 70 yr old man who bought it when he was 56 so the truck has not been abused. I still wonder how many more miles I can expect out of this engine before a total rebuild?
