Tranny oil spilling out of dipstick tube

Hi, I have a 1998 grand caravan Le with a 3.8. I had transmission oil spill out of the transmission dipstick tube. I refilled the oil to the proper level and made sure the stick was all the way in. About 3 days later I notice tranny oil again spilled out of the tube. I ordered a new dipstick, hoping the new one will sit tighter on the tube. Has anyone had this problem? maybe its something else im missing. Help P.S. this started when it started getting cold out (35 or colder).

When you check the fluid level are you checking then adding fluid when it is hot as prescribed? Hot meaning after driving 10 miles or so.

Yes ,I drove about 4-5 miles and then checked the level with the motor running. I add a little at a time and each time I shift to R,D,2,1,back to R then P before i recheck the level. Could the rubber gaskit go bad on the dipstick? it looks ok, no cracks or missing pieces. There were no transmission services done before this problem happened.

I have to ask if you checked the transmission oil with the vehicle running in neautral or park. Chrysler transmissions will no pump oil in park and have to be checked while running in neutral. I found this out the hard way.

Is the fluid leaking where the tube goes into the transmission the problem.
What exactly is the problem?

Re: Tranny oil spilling out of dipstick tube

I have a 96 GM Jimmy and had the same issue only the trans oil was backing up and out of the breather tube. Turned out to be a seal failure between two sections of the trans causing pressure to push the fluid up and out. By the time I found out what it was it had ruined the transmission and had to be rebuilt at the tune of 1600 bucks.
