New To Forum and Aurora

Well, I bit the bullet and purchased a 95 Aurora today! 118,xxx miles, 4.0L V8, outstanding shape overall. Fresh Black paint. (Very tempted to go grab some flame decals and stick them on) Paid $1800 for it and I need some advise on whether it was a good deal. There seems to be quite a few small issues with it, as it seems they all have their own quirks. What 13 yr old car doesn't, right? Headlight assembly is loose (seems like just needs proper tightening/adjustment) Heat/ A/C control panel LCD's not working (there are two right?) so there's no way to crank the air up and see if it is actually working, although the compressor does kick in. (Control Panel easily replaced with dash removal and $40) Cruise Control not working at all. (possible switch assembly replacement, fairly easy for me to do, unknown of cost). Right turn signal flashing at unusual intervals (very light blinking, which is why I think it's the complete assembly) Low Beam out. (Definitely easy and cheap) Gas lid won't release from inside, must go through trunk.(No biggy, not going to fix for awhile) Compressor for air ride runs for a few minutes while car is idle (unknown if this is even a problem, just annoying having to listen to it) Compressor runs for a few minutes after shutting the car off (again, unknown if this is even a problem)

Mechanically, this car runs like it just came off the showroom floor. Immediate acceleration, smooth transmission shifting, etc. etc.

I have to say something though. I really like this car. The sleek body, the sexy interior, the comfortable ride, oh and did I forget to mention the POWER??? Considering my previous vehicle of 4 years was a 1999 Neon, this thing takes off like a jet. Pinning you to the seat until you decide to let off the gas. I haven't had this much fun since my 1966 Chevelle SS 396 back in 1988!! I feel like a teenager behind the wheel. It takes every ounce of willpower I can muster to keep myself from putting the pedal to the metal.

Ok, enough enthusiasm, for now. Time to get serious and fix this thing, if it's going to be worth it. Need input!

Come on people. I know you're out there. Can I get some feedback? I would also like to know what can be done to fix a few issues I'm experiencing. Help is greatly appreciated.

Well, you asked for replies so, here goes.

As a former Aurora owner, a 95 as a matter of fact, I would like to inform you that:

1) You are soon going to be on a first name basis with the local mechanics and automobile parts suppliers.
2) There will be no worry that your wallet will be stretched out of shape (unless you put your repair bills in there).
3) Your neighbors will think you have the only car they know of that has an optional tow truck attachment.
4) The quantity of colorful language you express will increase geometrically.
5) You will have a "For Sale" sign on your car within the year and taking calls from interested suckers in between visits to bankruptsy court.
6) You won't believe how much you're willing to lie to get rid of that "POS".
7) You will soon lose your "Newbie" status.
8) Your next car will be a Honda Civic.

The good news is that if the old saying is true, "what dosen't kill you will make you stronger", your going to be a hell of a man by the time your experience with the nightmare that is the Aurora is done.

Update: Replaced DIC and all sorts of things went berzerk. Replaced Instrument cluster in dash and everything is PERFECT. Cost me $40 for new DIC and ZERO for instrument cluster (the guy I bought the car from felt bad for selling me a car that the needles went haywire on). The only thing left, so far, is the multifunction switch on the steering column. Found it for $60 at a local junkyard, but it's unknown when I'll have the $$$ to get it.

wow u lucked out with yours,need not worry about the small things just drive and enjoy, O and go ahead and rag it out pedal to the medal bro while u still can. i still drive mine and it runs great but there will be problems that u will have to fix yourself unless your loaded!

Pedal to the metal and I get 9 MPG. Can't afford that!! I'm actually using it as a daily commuter (109 miles/day total) and I'm getting around 26-28mpg, depending on traffic. So far, so good. Well, not quite perfect. The car starts 97% of the time, first turn of the key. Sometimes I turn the key and absolutely NOTHING happens. Keep turning ignition on and off and eventually, it starts. Entire ignition is going to need to be replaced, eventually. No prob, already got a line on one for $50 Research is the key and I've spent approx. 40 hrs. researching since I've bought this baby, so I feel ready for anything she can dish out
