clutch question...

Hi I have a 95 metro 1L, I went away for a month and when I came back I went to start the car and realized the clutch pedal doesn't spring back much after I put it to the floor. I checked the cable and it is fine, but the arm on top of the transaxle is really stiff and it takes two hands to push the arm back to where it should be when the clutch pedal is released. Is there a spring in there that could have broke? The car was shifting fine last time I was driving it, no problems at all, maybe sitting in the cold and snow for a month made something break? does this mean i have to tear apart the transaxle????

I think your clutch arm needs to be oiled up. It sounds like your throwout bering is not sliding back and forth very good. You may be able to do this with out pulling anything apart, but worst case scenario is, you'll only have to pull the engine to reach it better. You won't have to pull the tranny apart, to fix the clutch arm.
Start with spraying WD-40 on the moving parts and see if that helps. I don't know about the manual shift models, but there may be access plates on the bell housing, where you could get a visual of the parts inside. Just be careful that you don't spray anything on the clutch parts themselves, or you'll invite nasty clutch troubles.

When you start the car, then let it warm up to normal operating temp (Leaving it in Neutral) and Before You start driving it..........Does it shift properly and the clutch arm on the tranny return to it's normal position?

It's a long Shot johnny......If it does, Great! Otherwise, He seems to have the same symptoms as Chad did on the Geo Forum link you gave (Starting on Page 1). RJM1000, I suggest you read all 3 pages of the link Johnny provided in case the warm up doesn't solve the problem? It's quite possible you have an issue with the Clutch or pressure plate. In that case, a new "Clutch Kit" is in order as it includes the Clutch, Pressure plate, Throwout bearing, Pilot bearing and alignment tool in the kit......Nice write Mullet!
