99 Regal GS Coolant leak

My Regal is now leaking coolant from the lower intake. Shop said between $1000-$1500 to do, depending on what's found during the procedure. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and have done work on cars before. (mostly older, non computerized cars) Is this something that I can do myself? Any good links for my reading? It's not leaking badly yet. I have to top the coolant up every month or two. Oils gone milky, but oil is still clean, so I think (and the mechanic) it's still in the early stages.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 99 Regal GS Coolant leak

Where exactly is the leak? Any pics or can you better describe where it is leaking?

Doing the LIM gaskets on a L67 SII 3800 engine is a DIY job. Just tedious if it is your first time. The procedure is the same as the N/A SII 3800 engine except you substitute removal of the Eaton M90 supercharger versus the plastic UIM plenum found on the N/A engine. Be sure to get good quality supercharger and LIM gaskets and follow the proper torquing procedure for all SC and LIM bolts.

Re: 99 Regal GS Coolant leak

Thanks for the response.

Leak is on the front of the engine (front of car, not engine itself). It is around the middle cylinder.

Do you have a recommendation for a good replacement set of gaskets? Any good online reading on how to do it? I found a couple of similar issues with links on the forum, but the links were dead.

Thanks again.

Re: 99 Regal GS Coolant leak

You're welcome.

You can get the new style GM aluminum framed LIM gaskets at the following link along with the throttle body and supercharger gaskets. Also, be sure to get two new coolant bypass elbows for the tensioner assembly. Just send me a PM message with your regular email address and I'll send you what I have since those links are not working.
