1997 Jeep GCL, starting harder these days

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The last couple of weeks I have to crank the starter for 2-3 seconds before it starts.

A little history: I bought it with 95,000 miles and have had it 4 years now, it is up to 150,000 miles.

I have replaced the water and fuel pump on it (within the last two years). Otherwise, very little maintenance.

I have never replaced the battery or starter. An thoughts on where to start?

Re: 1997 Jeep GCL, starting harder these days

I'm sorry to see this thread so late, I do have the answer for it. I alsohave a 97 JGC with a 4.0. I bought it with the same problem. Come to find out, this is the only year that they used a Fuel pressure regulator that sits on the top of the fuel tank. It is the most common culperit for the hard starting. Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I'll bet it wont hold 5 lbs pressure after a few seconds. Hope this helps.
