Time to replace my tires

My current set of tires on the '92 PAU are making quite a racket....fump, fump, fump as I go down the road. A little shy of 3 years old, these Bridgestone Insignia SE tires look to have plenty of thread, but the sound is very irritating. So, I'm looking to purchase a new set.

I didn't rotate the tires as frequently as one is supposed to, and I suppose that's why they have worn badly. In the past, I have used the factory reccomended rotation style of FR to RR, RR to FL, FL to RL and RL to FR. The last set I had were Sam's BF Goodrich's, I think.

I'm writing to get some opinions about what has been your favorite tire on the PA. BTW, I have the 16" option.

I would highly recommend this tire. I currently have a set of these on my PA Ultra and have never owned a better tire. Yes, I have tried many of the other brands, including Michelin HydroEdge (good), Goodyear Assurance ComforTred, (OK) Kuhmo (junk), TOYO (fair) BFG (junk), Bridgestone (junk). Even the better ones could not compare with this one. Had I known earlier that Cooper made a tire like this, I would have never have bought anything else! Another plus is; they are made in the USA! BTW, notice the 45-day free road test! If your not happy, take them back!

I, too, have had TOYO, which weren't that great...quite noisy actually. Right now, I have the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred. I agree that they are just OK. When I replaced my tires, I wanted soft and quiet. They are the quietest tires I could find...and they're soft, which I like. But they have an 80,000 mile warranty on them...and I've had them for about 3 years and 30,000 miles and am thinking it will be time to replace them in the next year. I'm quite sure I won't make anywhere near 80,000 miles on them. I do have to give them kudos, however, for the 2-week snow/ice storm we had last month, they did great, even when I didn't have the chains on.

The link was a little flakey, so just to be sure, we're talking about the Cooper CS4 H/V, right? I've been interested in Cooper's over the years and never took the plunge. Hummm...........

A few months ago I bought the Michelin X Radial Tire from Costco. Costco now offering a $70.00 off coupon on 4 Michelin Tires thru Feb. 1st. So far I have been pleased with that Michelin Tire. Consumers Report gave this tire very, very high marks. Also I think you can buy this tire thru Sam's Club.

I was also happy with the original Good Year Eagles that came mounted on the Park Avenue.

We had a lot of snow and ice last two weeks of December. The Michelin X worked very well with and without cable chains.

If you have lot's of snow, try the Cooper CS4 Touring 215/60/16 M+S (Severe Snow Conditions) Traction-A Treadwear-780 Warranty 80K.
I don't have much snow, so I use CS4 TOURING H/V-RATED.

I'm in Florida, but I'm tempted to cheap-out, so to speak, and get the T version of the tire, it's a lower speed rating and what the sales people say a softer ride. H and or V rated is higher speed and so a little harder ride. Is the H/V much better? I think the place I called quoted me on the H version for about $550 for 4 and another place said $460 or so for a set of T's.

On the Goodyear Assurance ComforTreds, I have the whitewalls out. They are a thin stripe whitewall. The tire is made to always "look new", so they clean up nice and the whitewall is just enough to set off the car/tires nicely...not too imposing.

Have you tried Kauffman tire? Click Here for locations near you. They are a top-notch tire company and they sell Cooper tires, among many other brands. There is nothing wrong, or "cheap" about the T-rated tires. In fact, they have an 80K tread-life warranty with an 12/32 deep tread, as compared with the H-rated 60K tread-life warranty and 11/32 deep tread. T-speed rated tires are more than adequate for any use, except where sustained speeds exceed 118 mph. The H-speed rating is good for 130 mph sustained speed.

Do your homework and educate yourself with tire jargon. Click Here for the Cooper site to get some help. Shop around at several tire stores and get some best “drive-out” offers for equivalent, high quality tires. When you go to Kauffman, be prepared to make a purchase! Tell them what tire you like, and then ask them for their best “drive-out” price.

When they give you the first offer, tell them you are just shopping around for the best deal you can find and if their price is the best (for the same quality tire), you will be back in a few days. They do not want you to walk out the door to go shopping; for fear, you will buy elsewhere. If you start walking toward the door, they may call you back to make a better offer.
