Question Power steering leak

A friend has a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood. The power steering is leaking, I found the leak but i'm a little puzzled as to why its leaking where it is. It's leaking out of a metal line at the front divers side corner. I didn't know they ever used a power steering cooler, but that looks like where this line is going. There is a small cooler in front of the A/C condensor, like an oil cooler. It's a pressure line with a pinhole in it. He doesn't have much money and I don't feel like tackling the job of replacing the line. I hate to say it but i'm going to try to clean the line up with some emery cloth and wrap it with JB Weld. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thanks, Mark

Re: Power steering leak

If the line is corroded or fatigued, it may just break in another spot.

It's not difficult to fabricate another cooler using steel line or use a very small transmission cooler in its place.

If you do JB weld it, after spreading the Weld on, place a tiny hose clamp over the weld area, on top of the pinhole and tighten it down gently before the Weld hardens. The clamp will help the Weld stick in place when the oil is pressurized.

Re: Power steering leak

Thanks a bunch. The hose clamp is a great idea...and it's about 2 feet or more from the cooler so I don't have to mess with the cooler.. Thanks again, Mark
