OK so here is the problem I have a lot of smoke coming from it looks like under my exhaust manifold or by my vale covers I have replaced the valve covers and gaskets. I thought I had a problem with it getting to hot, because it did start on fire one time from all the oil leaking. That was before the valve cover change and stop the overheating. Any suggestions?

Re: 1982 Caprice Classic

It sounds like you have some oil that is burning off the exhaust manifolds.

Chances are you dripped some oil on those manifolds. Wipe down the engine just below the valve covers. Start the engine and have a look at your new gaskets just to make sure they are not leaking. If there are no leaks the oil will burn off and stop smoking pretty quickly.

BTW If you overtightened the new gaskets, you may have a new leak.

yeah just make sure the valve covers are snug, you dont have to really crank them down. also brake cleaner works great at cleaning up under the hood.
