Front end noise

2000 Sable. Whenever I hit even the smallest bump or a manhole cover the car makes a thumping noise up front. I've lifted the front end and the wheels are not loose either top to bottom or side to side. I pulled on the tie rods and they are tight. The brakes do not pull, no clicking when turning, drives straight. Any ideas out there??? Thanks!!!

Yea, but there is a loose nut behind the wheel! Can't seem to tighten that one up either.

Re: Front end noise

found out the problem was the front strut. It has a plastic/rubber cap or spacer on the top of the strut that is notorious for wearing out. I bought a good used one off a 2005 sable and installed it, problem gone. My junkyard guy said it was easier and cheaper to just buy the whole strut instead of trying to remove and replace just the cap.
