95 Sable Wagon Stalling

I have a 95 Mercury Sable Wagon with the 3.8L that I bought used with over 200k miles on it. The car starts and then stalls once it reaches operating temperature. After the car stalls it wont start again until it cools down. After it stalls there is no spark. It has all new plugs and plug wires. Also, when it is running and you close the hood the engine sputters and sounds like it is going to die. Can anyone shed some light on what my problem may be? Thanks.

Re: 95 Sable Wagon Stalling

Have you alternator tested...a lot of what you describe could be related to that. Also while you are at it, have them check the battery. Minimal cost to check, if any, to boot!

Re: 95 Sable Wagon Stalling

Here are some other thoughts with regard to stalling:
dirty mass airflow sensor, vacuum leak [I'd start here at this point..costs nothing but your time], torque converter clutch solenoid, O2 Sensors and fuel filter (when last changed?)

Those dont make any sense with what my symptoms are, none of those would stop the ignition system.

Absolutely not true...you said you have a stalling issue and any of items can cause it...you asked for thoughts...you got 'em..In a 95, vacuum hoses - unless replaced previously - are pushing 14 years...
