My Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa

Here's the fruits of my effort at this wonderful kit. There's a WIP thread with some information about the build here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=929893

Enjoy. Then go out and get the kit yourself! All comments, suggestions, criticisms welcomed.

Paint is a mix of Tamiya's Italian red and maroon with racing white lipstick. Interior is some mix (I can't remember exactly what I used) of Tamiya acrylics and some Testors metalizers. I used Hasegawa's wire wheels and KA Models' photoetch detail set.

Re: My Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa

Very nice build

(If I may say so though, IMHO it is a mistake to put it on the mini flying carpet for the photos - totally distracts form your very clean build )

Re: My Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa

Interesting shade of red. Is there a reason why you left the front head light covers off??

Nice overall work.

Robert

P.S.: Can you imagine a rug big enough to have a 250TR standing on it? It sure is a great way to keep the car from having īcoldī tires.

Yes, there are three reasons:
1) I like the look without them.
2) I didn't think I could paint the little "screws" satisfactorily.
3) I don't have an adhesive that I felt I could use safely without managing to make a mess.

Thanks for the comments. At least nobody has said, "Where are the exhaust pipes?" They are attached now but not in the photos.

Re: My Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa

I love the 3rd pic - it looks really great there. Is it a red, or just straight brown? Was there a real car in that color, It'd be interesting to see it if there was.

It is a mix of Italian red and maroon, and it is meant to look like a real Ferrari color as seen here:

Very nice build. The choice of color is interesting and the use of the white on the nose is a good choice.
Try to put the light covers on, as soon as you get some good adhesive for that (Micro Klear seems to be the one to have).

Is it meant to be part of a diorama about the collection of the Shah of Iran?

Re: My Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa

It came out quite nice; the color is great.

As for the headlight covers, you can use a tiny pointed brush to dot silver paint, or use small P/E parts. If you mess up, polish the paint off and start again!

Get a bottle of Formula 560 Canopy Glue or Micro Krystal Kleer; it's invaluable for gluing glass, lenses, and other finishing parts to a model. Dries clear, and excess wipes away w/a damp cloth or Q Tip if any gets smeared while you apply the part. Very forgiving, looks like Elmer's but thicker and much, much stronger.

Thanks for the comments and for the glue recommendations. I was planning to get something like G-S Hypo but haven't yet got around to it. I'll get some of the Micro Krystal Klear ASAP.

GS-Hypo is quite a good glue but actually, in my experience, it is messier to work with than white glue - it needs some cure time beofre joining, it tends to stretch into threads/strands when applying...

GS-Hypo gives a stronger bond but for these headlight covers white glue will be the better option IMHO (no strength needed here)

Micro Krystal Klear and Formula 560 canopy glue are white glues with tremendous strength when dry. You cannot compare them with stationery/paper grade white glues.

I had a scrap piece of material that I poured a puddle of Formula 560 onto for assembly; the excess dried as strong as epoxy. Elmer's dries very soft and without much grip. They may look similar when applied, but after curing there is absolutely no comparison.

I quite agree
I used the term "white glue" here in a rather generic sense which was probably a mistake. You were right to pick up on my "looseness"
I use Krystal Klear or carpentry white glue by Henkel - not school glue. I have also heard great things about a glue called Gator Grip (?) and very much want to try it out but haven't had luck yet at finding it in stock in on-line stores that aren;t on the other side of the world
